The Nhar’Kael

The Nhar’Kael are an alien species native to Vhor-Mael, a planet shrouded in a perpetual, toxic fog. In this horizonless twilight, they have lost the need to see. Their pale, misshapen bodies tremble beneath semi-translucent skin, and their faces are dominated by a gaping, tooth-filled mouth, used as much for screaming as for sensing the world.

They perceive their environment by projecting muffled screams into the mist, transforming every vibration into information. Silence drives them mad. Noise draws them in. Motionless for hours, they wait for something to disturb the fog… then strike.

They do not hunt out of cruelty, but out of instinctive necessity. When a Nhar’Kael screams, it is not a threat: it is a signal that comes too late, announcing that the prey has already been located. On Vhor-Mael, disappearing into the mist is common. Being heard by the Nhar’Kael, however, is a death sentence.
